Substation Equipment and Electrical Safety
SUB 101 introduces students to the critical aspects of substation equipment and electrical safety. The curriculum delves into the various types of equipment found within an electrical substation, their functions, and how they integrate into the overall power delivery system. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to understanding and mitigating the serious risks associated with high-voltage environments, particularly arc flash hazards. Students will learn about protective measures, safe work practices, and the proper procedures for switching operations to ensure personnel and equipment safety. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on laboratory exercises and a capstone project, preparing technicians for responsible and safe work in substation environments without focusing on specific manufacturers or product names.
